10 Year Wedding Anniversary // Romantic Picnic Date

My husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary two weeks ago.  While we would usually take a fun trip to somewhere new, this year we decided to postpone our travels until it was safer and celebrate locally instead.  Since it’s a big milestone, we wanted to do something grand on a smaller scale.  This picture perfect picnic with our kids and parents was more than we could’ve asked for.

I usually like to DIY things myself, but as a treat to ourselves, we hired The Joy Standard Events to plan everything.  We’ve never worked with an event planner before, but after our first phone conversation with them, we were so excited!  We gave them our budget and asked them to scout locations, catering menus, and photographers in addition to designing and coordinating all of the decorations.  A few days later they sent us a virtual package with pictures and details for possible locations, decoration themes, and catering menus based on the cuisine we requested.  They also recommended one of their favorite Philadelphia based photographers and even suggested a few activities they could set up for the kids to do during the picnic.

They gave us the option to review the decor beforehand, but we chose to be surprised.  We were blown away at first sight!  They did an amazing job and we enjoyed every minute of our picnic.  Using an event planner made everything extremely easy.  They took care of every detail, and all we had to do was show up.

Anniversary Picnic Details

We chose to picnic at the same park where we made our wedding vows, the scenic Core Creek Park in Pennsylvania.  Our secluded spot overlooked a lake and was nestled underneath a large tree to keep us shaded.  The kids loved the open space to run around in while we enjoyed the view.

For decor, I requested a romantic theme with soft colors.  Our planners delivered with a beautiful low table and plenty of chic blankets and rugs to dine on comfortably.  The lovely tablescape included assorted peony and hydrangea bouquets, stylish plate settings, and gold statement pieces on a floral tablecloth.  There was also a mix of natural and wicker furniture pieces with pictures from our wedding.

For food, we chose a three-course “celebration” box from the Fork restaurant in Philly, in addition to a charcuterie board and margarita pizza for the kids. Our appetizer, entree, and dessert consisted of Crab Louie salad, cold smoked sturgeon, wagyu steak, freekeh risotto, chocolate ganache tart, and strawberry cheesecake. The food was amazing, but the number of individual dishes was a bit overwhelming for the space we had. Next time, we would choose a family style meal or something simpler, like sandwiches.

We also decided to have a professional photographer capture this special time with our family for us, and we’re so happy we did.  Peach Plum Pear Photo came for the first hour and made us feel so comfortable and relaxed while she went to work.  She took a large variety of portraits, stills, and candids – we’re so impressed with each and every one of them.

Making the most of this social distancing environment with a thoughtfully crafted picnic turned out better than expected.  It was a romantic and relaxing evening filled with good company and fun.  I can’t wait to have more picnics in the future!  It’s such a sweet idea for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion outdoors.

We had so much fun on our picnic! How have you been celebrating special occasions?
