Coffee + Collagen // Nespresso VertuoPlus Coffee and Espresso Machine Review

I love starting my mornings with a good cup of coffee. This hunter green ribbed mix & match lounge set is super comfy. The top is loose fitting and the pants have an elastic waistband. I’m wearing sz 2, fits TTS.

Mornings at the Do house can be hectic – feeding the kids breakfast, getting them ready for school, and packing lunches are just a few of the things we need to do.  It’s why I love taking a moment to enjoy a nice cup of coffee while setting my goals and tasks for the day. This me-time has become even more enjoyable with my new Nespresso machine (see my review at the end of the post).

Coffee is known to have a long list of health benefits, including improving blood circulation, helping burn fat, and being a huge source of antioxidants.  To make it even healthier, I’ve started mixing collagen powder into it.  It’s been such a quick and easy step to incorporate into my daily morning routine.  I’ve been doing it for nine months now, and I can see and feel an improvement in my skin and hair.

I find this brand of collagen to be more neutral + tasteless compared to other popular brands.

There’s some debate about whether collagen supplements actually work, but based on my experience, I’ve seen noticeable changes.  The bags and fine lines under my eyes are softening and becoming a lot less visible. My postpartum hair loss was taking over two years to grow back, but a few months ago it finally started to grow to a more manageable length (it’s still on the short side, which I’ve been managing with hair accessories).  I’m so happy I gave collagen a try, and my body is thankful too!

What is Collagen?

Collagen is the protein that our body relies on to ensure the health and vitality of our skin, hair, tendons, cartilage, bones, and joints.  Around the age of 30, our bodies naturally produce less collagen, and the first signs of aging start to occur. Collagen peptides are a cold-soluble (doesn’t require heat to dissolve) supplement that’s easily digestible. It’s also a highly bioactive form of collagen that’s neutral in taste and odor.

Collagen Supplement Benefits

Collagen supplements can help reduce the effects of aging by adding moisture to the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and increasing skin elasticity.  It also helps the body’s skin repairing process by stimulating the body to produce more collagen on its own. This can help strengthen bones, joints, and nails as well as stimulate muscle and hair growth.

Taking Collagen

Since I drink coffee every morning, it was easy for me to mix collagen peptides into it as part of my routine.  I add one scoop of this collagen to my coffee, with a splash of almond milk or oat milk.  If you prefer, you can add it to your tea, smoothie, oatmeal, yogurt, soup, sauce or any warm or room temperature water.   When mixing collagen peptides with cold liquids, I use a shaker bottle to make sure the powder is fully mixed in.

Nespresso VertuoPlus Coffee and Espresso Machine Review

I’ve been using a Keurig K40 Elite Brewing System at home for 10 years. After hearing so many good things about Nespresso machines and doing some research, I finally decided to make the switch.  After having it for a few weeks, I can say that it’s a major upgrade and I absolutely love it!

My biggest deciding factors were convenience, the taste of the coffee, and the design.  The model I chose was the Nespresso VetruoPlus Coffee and Espresso machine. It’s convenient because it can make both coffee and espresso (I like drinking coffee in the morning and having an occasional mid-day or evening espresso).  The original Nespresso machine only makes espresso, but the Vetruo line can brew coffee drinks in five different cup sizes, which are indicated on the barcode of each pod.

It makes a rich and great tasting cup of coffee (similar to gourmet coffee shops) with a beautiful signature foam.  There are currently 30 different flavors to choose from. So far my favorite coffee flavors are Caramelizio, Hazelino, Vanilla, and Columbia, and my favorite espresso flavor is Altissio. The limited-edition Pumpkin Spice Cake is really good too.

I also really appreciate the sleek and slender design – it even has a clear water tank that can be placed on the back or to the side.  It heats up quickly (in 25 seconds) and is quieter than our Keurig. The back compartment of the Nespresso machine can also hold up to 14 used capsules, so you don’t have to empty it each time you want to make a new cup of coffee.

Another advantage of switching to Nespresso is that the capsules are recyclable –  just place your used capsules into the prepaid labeled bag they provide (which can hold about 70 capsules) and drop it off at any UPS location.  Nespresso will compost the coffee grounds and recycle the aluminum casings.

Our family has been so happy with the change. Hopefully this review will help if you’re looking to make the switch too!

If you have a Nespresso, what is your favorite flavor?

I knew the postpartum hair loss would resonate with a lot of the mothers. My postpartum hair loss grew almost double the length in a few months. Everyone is different and I hope this helps speeds things up for you. <3
