A Garden Theme Party // Celebrating Birthday Milestones

I love birthdays – celebrating life and reflecting on another year’s worth of experiences while bringing family and friends together. Last year, we had the pleasure of celebrating two milestones: my husband’s 40th and our daughter’s 1st birthdays. With their special days only five days apart, combining the festivities felt like the perfect way to double the joy. It was the first big event in our new home and we chose an elegant and classy outdoor Garden Party theme to take advantage of the beautiful weather.

Garden Party Theme

Our color palette included a romantic blend of soft blues, warm pinks, corals, and yellows, accented with a delicate white and blue Mediterranean print. We envisioned an abundance of fresh flowers gracing the backdrop and tablescape and decided to enlist the help of an event planner to make it a reality. After discussing our ideas and budget with her, she took charge and we were so impressed with her execution! Since the previous day’s rain made our grassy backyard too wet to use, our planner helped us pivot to the front yard and driveway for the festivities.

Backdrop

My favorite part of the decor was the stunning backdrop. It was the main focal point, with a large baby blue arch that hung custom wooden name plates and two half floral-print arches. The live florals and greenery enveloped the area, creating a picturesque area framing the cake pedestal. Tying it all together was a neutral tassel umbrella, adding the perfect finishing touch.

Bar

A full-service bar on the back patio, complete with an antique wooden bistro bar, custom signage, bar back, and coolers, provided an inviting space for our guests. Signature drinks, formulated by an experienced bartender, flowed seamlessly, and the coolers were filled with water and juice – allowing everyone to indulge in the festivities.

Tablescape

We opted for simplicity in the dining tablescape, with satin blue tablecloths and floral bouquets on round tables paired with wooden chairs. The high-top tables surrounding the bar were decorated with a white and blue floral print, coupled with small bouquets for an extra layer of charm.

Kids Area

Ensuring the little ones had their own special space, we set up an adorable kids’ table and chairs for dining, with coloring books, stickers, and markers to keep them entertained. A bouncy house and giant connect four board added an extra dose of fun to their celebration.

Food and Dessert

We catered our favorite Vietnamese dishes, pizza, fried chicken, and wraps served buffet-style.

Our sweet tooth was indulged with not one, but two birthday cakes: a breathtaking two-tiered vanilla and chocolate buttercream masterpiece adorned with fresh flowers and a delectable cookies and cream sheet cake from Sweet T’s.

Fresh fruit and veggies were served on large cardboard number trays. They were so easy to make and we loved how they turned out.

Entertainment

We offered an array of yard games such as cornhole, large checkers, and ring toss. Music echoed through the garden courtesy of outdoor speakers, playing tunes from our curated playlist. At my husband’s request, we added beer pong tables for some competitive fun and to relive his old days.

In the end, our Garden Party was a celebration of love, joy, and new beginnings in our beautiful new home. We had such a good time and it meant so much to have our friends and family come together. Cheers to many more years of shared birthdays and memorable moments!
